A Time To Cut Loose
Delta Upsilon boasts one of the most active social calendars at the University of Oklahoma. Our calendar consists of sorority functions, date parties, and CAC events. This year we will host 10 different date parties, which adds up to one each month.
Our calendar begins with the annual Bid Day Date Party. We will be partnering up with fraternities Sigma Chi and Phi Delta Theta. This year we are hosting Lil’ Wil and DJ Q as our entertainment. He has opened for artists such as: Lil’ Wayne, Pretty Ricky, and Ludacris. This Bid Day Date Party will be one for the ages and will be sure not to disappoint.
Along with two date parties preceding it, Crawfish Boil and Strike Out, our traditional Feudal Dinner Party is the longest running fraternity tradition on the OU campus—80 years! This party is a three-day event in November and begins with a sorority function followed by a hayride Friday evening at Lake Thunderbird, and on Saturday there is a formal dinner and dance in the Oklahoma City area. This year we will be booking a Texas red-dirt country band for Friday evening to listen and two-step to!
Also in the fall semester we will be bringing back our JingleBalls date party to sum up the semester. We will fill the venue and house with packing-peanuts to simulate snow and will have a live band playing at the event!
Starting the spring semester we will have our Holiday Hangover date party to signify the end of winter and all its holidays! Also in February, we will host date parties such as “Frat Tuesday” and our formal Valentines Day date party. In March we will host our annual Toga Party, which brings us to our biggest social event of the year: “Coast Guard”!
Last year Delta Upsilon teamed up with other fraternities including Lambda Chi Alpha, Beta Theta Pi, and Sigma Phi Epsilon to throw the biggest date party the University of Oklahoma has ever seen: Coast Guard! At one point during the party over1800 people were in attendance! We held this date party at the historic Oklahoma City Farmers’ Market in Bricktown. Our source of entertainment for the night was the famous Eli Young Band, a red-dirt country band from Texas! This was said to have been one of the best parties ever thrown on the Oklahoma campus and was all put together and run by members of Delta Upsilon.
Along with date parties, Delta Upsilon also puts on non-alcoholic mixers with sororities. These help our pledge class and older members get to know other sororities on campus and build lasting friendships throughout their college career.
We also boast one of the top CAC event calendars on campus this year. Leading off the year we are participating in University Sing with Kappa Alpha Theta. In 2006 we placed 1st in University Sing and in 2007 we placed 2nd. We are hoping to regain the title this year!
Our next CAC event is Homecoming. Each year a fraternity and a sorority team up to build a float, choreograph a dance, and make a banner that correspond to a certain theme. Everyone only has one week to complete these tasks, making this certain week one of the busiest of the year! In 2006 Delta Upsilon placed 1st overall and in 2007 we placed 3rd. Once again we are hoping to take home 1st place this year!
To sum up the year we participate in Sooner Scandals. Much like University Sing, you will learn to sing and dance to a particular theme, although the theme is usually more somber and scandalous. In 2006 Delta Upsilon placed 1st in Scandals and hopes to take back the crown this coming year!
At Delta Upsilon, our social life compares second to none and is handled with the greatest responsibility. We fully comply with all University policies. Just another reason why Delta Upsilon members are respected as well rounded individuals and our fraternity is respected as one of the top on campus.
