Dear Parent of Prospective OU Rush Participant:
As the coordinator for the Delta Upsilon Parents' Club at the Oklahoma I hope
that you and your son will seriously consider the benefits of pledging the
strong, well-established, non-secret, and well-respected Delta Upsilon
Fraternity at the University of Oklahoma.
While we recognize that your son will make the final decision related to
joining a specific fraternity, we encourage parents to actively participate in
that decision-making process. With the national and local publicity about the
Greek system, many parents will have understandable concerns about the benefits
of pledging a fraternity. Beyond that, there may be concerns about which
fraternities will add value and enrichment to your son's college experience.
My older son, Brent, was president of the DU Chapter when he was an
undergraduate at OU six years ago. He has now successfully completed law school
and is practicing with a firm in Dallas. The leadership skills he gained while
in Delta Upsilon served him very well in School and, subsequently, as he
entered the business world. My younger son, Michael, is currently a senior and
is also the president of the Chapter. His numerous campus and fraternity
leadership experiences are building a strong base that will serve him well in
his future endeavors.
My wife, Sharon, and I have been actively involved in the Delta Upsilon
Parents'Club for over 10 years. During that time, I have had parent after
parent share the following comments with me, "We are so pleased our son joined
the DU family. It has made an incredible, positive difference in his life. It
is great to see a fraternity where the individual's unique attributes are
valued and where their brotherhood surrounds them with a strong support base
that last for year's to come. Our son had a great experience. and has made
friends that will last for life."
Delta Upsilon has always been a non-secret and non-hazing fraternity, and it is
the only fraternity on campus where you, as parents and family, will be invited
to attend the public initiation ceremony. Over the summer, your son will be
invited to rush events to get to know our rush team and meet members of the
fraternity. We encourage parents to also meet our rush team members and get to
know these men like I know them. I believe you will end up encouraging your son
to give DU full consideration when they participate in rush.
Please give me a call if you have any questions about rush, Greek life, or
Delta Upsilon. I will be happy to talk to you.
